Rt. Rev. Charles Collins Andaku, the bishop of Madi and West Nile diocese has issued a seven-point guide on how to celebrate Easter in a Christian way.

“Meditate on Christ’s suffering and sacrifice, witness to others the proclamation of his rise from death, rejoice in Christ because unlike many prophets who are still in grave, our prophet is risen,” he said during an afternoon media briefing on Thursday.

He added: “Pray because it will help us not to enter into temptation as you eat and dance; share Easter joy and love with the sick, elderly, neighbors and even pagans; support your local church with what God has given you and be smart in celebrating.”

His guide comes at a time when Christians throughout Uganda are preparing to hold communal celebration of Easter after two years of disruption by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He decried rampant teenage pregnancy, domestic violence and strikes by school children that has affected learning and resulted into destruction of school property, blaming them on psychological draw-down of the pandemic lock-down.

Reflecting on the rising cost of living, bishop Andaku urged Christians to cut their budgets and be security conscious during the festive season.

He reminded the Anglicans that the church is encouraging them to give love gifts of at least sh60,000 per individual or family and urging churches to purchase at least two shares at sh100,000 per share from the Church House in Kampala.

“That house has been completed and when it is used, every church should benefit,” he reasoned.

The prelate also asked Christians to generously support the construction of the jubilee house, a project undertaken by Madi and West Nile diocese to mark 100 years of the Anglican faith in Northwestern Uganda.
