Lotirir Health Centre II a church of Uganda founded Private Not For Profit (PNFP) facility located at Nawanatau village, Nawanatau Parish, Loputuk Sub-county Moroto district has enhanced service delivery by extending out-patients department services to the villages that have difficulties accessing the health facilities.
According to Faith Becky Agilu the Incharge, the facility does up to 3 days activities weekly to the different hard-to-reach villages under their jurisdiction of operation.
She says this help to reach everybody in the communities where they perform mass testing of common diseases such malaria, HIV, and TB screening and identify other diseases mainly that appear on the skin and give treatment for such.
Florence Ayenget a Village Health Team member says the outreach program helps to identify cases mostly in children who look not to be sick but upon testing, they are found with Malaria and then later given treatment.
According to her, only children and elderly people do not easily come to the hospital, and therefore the fact that they are being followed by the health workers up to home helps bridge the gap in coverage of the community in access to services.
The health facility has also trained VHTs in performing Rapid Diagnostic Tests ( RDT) mainly for Malaria and has equipped them with the necessary stores to assess and treat such cases at community levels.
Albert Aboko, the LC1 chairperson of Lopur village appreciated the services being taken closer to the communities mostly for the vulnerable people that do not easily access the facilities.
The outreach program is mainly supported by funding from the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Health under Primary Health Care (PHC) which is always given to health facilities every quarter.
However, once in a while, some Non-Governmental Organisations like Doctors with Africa-CUAMM, Infectious Disease Institute- IDI, and Caritas Uganda among others step in and support the activities.
Lotirir HC II provides services like TB screening, Antenatal Care, Deliveries, Post-natal Care, HIV testing, Out-Patient Services, Nutrition Services, and Immunisation.
