The all time Moroto district football Association (MDFA) most celebrated tournament has returned in full strength for the year 2024.

“THE UHURU LEAGUE” is a locally based football competition focused on developing young talents in the district and out mostly played in a period heading towards Uganda’s Independence (UHURU).

For the year 2024, the tournament that has already seen 10 teams fully registered will start on 15th June and will be played in a round Robin format. Each team has to play against all the other teams on neutral grounds.

After the 9 legs have each been played by the teams, the top eight teams will enter the knock out stages from the quarter finals and down to the finals.

According to the Chairperson MDFA, Mr. Lobong Albino, the association has mapped two grounds for the games notably Naitakwae Sports complex and Moroto Prisons ground.

He however added that for now the prisons ground will be used as improvements are being made at Naitakwae.

Lobong requested the teams to have their squads (at least 16/25) updated, registered and licensed by start of games and will be given up to middle of the season to fully have a team registered.

Out of the 25 expected players per team, 20 should at least be locally based and only 5 can be out sourced from other regions out of Karamoja.

In the 2023 event, Elephants FC beat Green stars FC to become champions by 4-2 in the hot-heated finals at Naitakwae Sports complex.
