Kangole Girls Primary School Pupils during the regional MDD Festival

Three out of 4 quoirs from Karamoja have made it to the national Music Dance and Drama Festival being held in Kyotera district.
The three are Kasimeri primary school from Moroto (defending champions), Lomukura primary school from Kotido, Kangole Girls primary school from Napak districts in Karamoja.
Kakamar primary school from Kaabong couldn’t travel, also Amudat district that benefited from affirmative action made no show up due to financial constraints in the districts.
According to Mr. David Orit the Kakamar primary school MDD trainer, they are very disappointed not to travel for the national event yet they had taken a lot of time to prepare for it.
“You cannot believe that we are still healing from this trauma, this was our first time and everyone prepared to their best only to get let down at last, an emotional Orit told Karamoja news website.”
He however said since the district had no money to cater for their movements, they had nothing to do but console themselves. Orit has now appealed to government to always consider the region with some resources if it is to compete with other regions in the country in various co-curricular activities.
“It has taken us much time to believe that we are not going, the pupils are very sad but we talked and encouraged them. We hope for the best next time in case maybe we are adequately supported, he said.”
However the regional MDD Chairperson Mr. George Odongo said the delays of the quarterly release of money to the schools has played a major part in disabling participation of the Karamoja schools.

He says some of the schools that managed to travel to Kyotera are choking in debts to ensure that they at least register an appearance to the national level and represent the region.
During the regional MDD Festival, Kasimeri primary school defended it’s position in a tight contest with Lomukura primary school who were first runner ups.
Kangole girls, from the host district Napak didn’t either take the opportunity for granted as the girls only school managed to scoop the third position in the region followed by Kakamar primary school from Kaabong who also put in much effort after several failed attempts to reach regional level.
At the National level overtime, Karamoja has been very competitive as it has never gone beyond position 20 in the past five (5) years.
