Despite the climatic change challenge in the Karamoja region and the surrounding areas during the first planting season of 2022, some farmers made use of the little Rain drops.
A youth in Napumpum village, Napumpum Sub county, Kotido district Moses Evra Lokech while speaking to our reporter confirmed the readiness of at least 10 hectors of groundnuts to be harvested in one week’s time from his garden.
Lokech said he spent over 500,000 shillings in planting and weeding his crops but unpredictable
climate change interfered with the growth of the groundnuts.
He urged fellow Youth to see Agriculture as a major economic activity in improving their financial status adding that sometimes it is not easy to manage the gardens with inadequate rain but still there is need to embrace in Agriculture as the backbone of life.
“I love Agriculture because it feeds me and the entire world, however most of my fellows prefer luxurious life forgetting what can bring some cash in their hand like agriculture”, said Lokech
The Chairperson Youth Kotido district, Kalistus Aleper appealed to fellow youth to consider agriculture as
smart way to change their life and not gambling tasking the elders to guide youth on the right path to follow for better future.
According to Aleper, less than 40% of the youth in his area of jurisdiction participate in agricultural activities and he called for a mindset change of the youth from cattle raids to farming activities.
Lokech now expects become a millionaire prior to the harvest of the 10 hectors of groundnuts.
