The state minister for agriculture sub crop sector has assured the people of Karamoja government intension to distribute quick maturing seeds to all farmers for planting this season as way of fighting food insecurity in the region.
According to Mr. Bwino Fred Kyakulaga, the state minister of agriculture sub crop sector, the seeds were selected by the LC5 chairpersons of Karamoja districts in meeting held in Kampala.
The selected seeds according to Mr. Fred include green gram, simsim, cow peas and white beans which he says leaders believe that they will mature in two month period.
He added that leaders also suggested that seeds of sorghum, maize and beans be given to farmers in the first season of next year.
Besides distributing seeds, the minister said his ministry is also digging valley dams in different districts in the region to which some of them are expected to be completed by December this year.
According to him these are both short and long term programs that the government is putting in place to enrich Karamoja with food.
Kyakulaga made this remarks in a meeting organised by the Office of the Prime Minister at Hotel Africana, Moroto on Friday 2nd September, 2022 in a bid to solve Karamoja hunger crisis.
He then called upon the people of Karamoja to own all these projects so as to serve the intended purpose in Karamoja.
