The Office of the Prime Minister in conjunction with the ministries of Security and Health are carrying out a hunger survey in Karamoja region to ascertain the facts of the situation as reported by the area leaders in Parliament recently.

This was revealed by the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja yesterday at Hotel Africana in Moroto while meeting Karamoja leaders, accounting officers and security officials to forge a way out for the situations that have affected most developments in the region.

The Prime Minister said the survey report is expected to be presented to parliament this coming week, which will in turn inform the legislators on the factual findings to guide government while taking up the various interventions in the region.

Meanwhile, Karamoja Members of Parliament through the Karamoja Parliamentary Group-KPG secretary John Bosco Ngoya faulted the Prime Minister and government for not taking the situations as serious as it did with the recent floods that claimed many lives and property in Mbale.

He said Karamoja leaders informed Parliament two years ago about both the security and hunger crisis but instead the ministry in charge of Karamoja decided to downplay their cry yet in actual sense people have died.

However Mary Goretti Kitutu, the Minister for Karamoja affairs said the security situation in the region greatly affected their operation and coordination. She called upon area leaders to always cooperate with the office of the prime Minister to avoid the blame game.

Recently, Government was in disagreement with Nabilatuk district death figures attributed to hunger. When the RDC carried out fact checks around the town council, he found out that some people had died as far as 2006 and others were alive but had just migrated to other areas.
