EMPOWER WOMEN TO PARTICIPATE IN WEALTH CREATION, VP ALUPO TELLS EADERS

The Vice President of Uganda, H.E Jessica Alupo, has told women leaders and entrepreneurs to actively involve women in wealth creation to achieve sustainable development.

Alupo said that sustainable plans of any country can only be achieved where community is actively involved in the wealth production without disruption.

She called upon African governments to make enabling policies and laws that will facilitate women and youth to actively participate in business and trade on the continent.

The Vice President made the remarks during a virtual address tot women leaders and entrepreneurs attending the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) conference that is underway in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania.

Alupo was one of the panelist discussions that examined supporting women and youth leadership in trade looking at barriers impacting women and youth aspirations in attaining highest levels especially in business leadership.

She stressed the importance of secure business environment stating that without peace and stability, governments cannot engage in any meaningful and sustainable programs for their people.

Giving the example of Uganda, the Vice President observed that the leadership has created not only a conducive environment for everyone with ability to invest to do so, but is also empowering women and youth groups with deliberate government programs to facilitate them engage in value addition and wealth generation.

Other panelists in the discussion included Ethiopia President, Sahle-work-Zewede and Malawi former President, Joyce Banda, the former President of Mauritius, Ameen Gurib Fakim, Liberia’s Vice President and former First Lady, Jewel Taylor and the African Union Commission Deputy Chairperson, Dr Monique Nsanzabaganwa.
