DR JANE RUTH ACENG LEADS STRATEGIC COMMITTEE/RESPONSE PARTNERS ON EBOLA TO KASSANDA

Kassanda District Task Force has hosted the National Strategic Committee and Response Partners on Ebola after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni announced the 21 days lockdown. They held a dialogue with the community at Bweyongede and later addressed the district council.

Hon Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the Minister of Health said members of the strategic committee including Ministry of Health and partners (WHO, UNICEF, CDC) visited Kassanda district and engaged the district task force to understand how the response to Ebola Epidemic is progressing

“Thereafter we travelled to Bweyongede village in Kalwana subcounty where all the cases have come from to sensitize the communities and respond to their issues of concern. Together we can save lives and end the Epidemic”, said Dr Aceng

She said hiding someone who has been in contact with an Ebola-infected person is dangerous to you and the entire community. Call the nearest health facility immediately for further assistance!

Dr Yonas Tegegn WOLDEMARIAM, World Health Representative in Uganda said in any outbreak response, community awareness is essential. We hope that the dialogue with the Bweyongede community today will strengthen their engagement in the ebola response in Uganda.

World Health Organisation has since the beginning of this response mobilized resources to support this pillar.

Other leaders who attended the Bweyongede community dialogue in Kassanda are Dr Diana Atwine, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Yonas Tegegn WOLDEMARIAM, World Health Organisation representative in Uganda, Munir Safieldin, head of UNICEF, Dr Henry Mwebesa, the Director General of Health Services and others listened to the community and responded to questions about ebola and the response in their community.

As earlier posted on our website, the Minister held several meetings in the two districts.

DR JANE RUTH ACENG RETURNS TO MUBENDE AND KASSANDA DISTRICTS AFTER PRESIDENT MUSEVENI ANNOUNCED LOCKDOWN

By Goodluck Musinguzi

The Political Head at the Ministry of Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng is returning to Mubende and Kassanda districts where she is expected to oversee the progress in the fight against Ebola. On Thursday, 20th October 2022 it will be one month since Dr Diana Atwine announced the outbreak of Ebola.

Dr Aceng has been to Mubende and other neighbouring districts this one month, but her visit this week is significant especially since she returns when there’s a lockdown. The health workers and other state actors will be waiting for her guidance in implementing the guidelines announced.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni directed the Minister of Health on what to do in the coming days.

Countrymen, Countrywomen and Foreign Residents, these are temporary measures to control the spread of Ebola.

We should all cooperate with the authorities so that we bring this outbreak to an end in the shortest time possible. In regards to essential health services, Ambulances, vans and medicines have been deployed to support the continuity of other health services.

Those who are sick should use ambulances to access the hospitals and health workers should use the vans. The Minister for Health and other authorities will provide additional guidance on these directives.

Lastly, for Kampala City, while the two cases that tested positive came from Mubende District and are regarded as Mubende cases, because of the presence of contacts of these two cases and the risks of infection, I have directed a full mobilization of Kampala City into a response mode.

This should cover the Kampala Metropolitan area. The Minister for Health and other authorities will provide additional guidance on these directives.
