The Deputy 3rd Division Commander Of Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Brigadier General Felix Busizoori has urged Pian Karacunas in Nabilatuk District to embrace voluntary approach to disarmament operation as additional strategies for realization of total peace in Karamoja Sub region are being enforced.
Brig Gen Busizoori made the remarks during security – Community mobilization in which hundreds of Karacunas and elders turned up at Nayoroit Village in Nabilatuk Town Council
” I urge you the Pian Karacunas of Nabilatuk District to embrace voluntary surrender of guns as it’s being done by your colleagues in North Karamoja. Desist from criminality, revenge and give chance to peace,” Remarked Brig Busizoori.
He narrated that in the last three days the general security situation in Kotido, Kaabong and Karenga districts remains calm, a condition which is partially attributed to ongoing voluntary surrender of guns by Karachunas.
Hon Sylvia Awas, the Woman Member of Parliament for Nabilatuk District stressed that government of Uganda appropriated 107 Millions under Parish Development Model (PDM) to benefit organized groups and SACCOs including reformed Karacunas as target audience. She encouraged recipients of PDM funds to properly utilize it to improve household incomes.
Hon Awas promised to mobilize and rally her constituents for peaceful co-existence among neighbouring communities with other districts.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Francis Chemusto, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Commander, cautioned the Karacunas against contaminating and tampering with scenes of crime whenever offences are committed since the vice curtails search efforts and retards investigations.
Present were; Mr. Jimmy Lokuri Tebanyang Deputy Resident District Commissioner (D/RDC), Ms Judith Nakut, Mobilizer, Mr. Robert Lochap, Program Manager for Mercy Corps, Senior Security Officers of UPDF, UPF, ISO and ASTU among others.
