Adoa, Ecweru want idle youths in Teso dealt with due to increased Attacks

The Minister of State, for fisheries and transport Hellen Adoa who also represents the women of Serere district and Francis Musa Ecweru of Amuria County in Amuriat district respectively on Sunday jointly asked Abbas Byakagaba, the inspector general of police to implement the arrest of lawless youths in Teso sub region.

They raised the instruction at Amusiat village in Putiputi sub county, Pallisa district during the burial of Mary Magadalene Aine Odomel, wife to the former Inspector General of Police John Cossy Odomel who succumbed to cancer on September 26, 2024.

Adoa said the energetic and would be productive young generation is getting out of hand, terrorizing the population at night and do gambling during day time instead of engaging in productive work.

“Bwana IGP, these ruthless youths snatch, robe, rape, steal, torture, kill and even stage illegal roadblocks. The force under you must bring sanity to our communities”, Adoa urged.

She blamed parents for relaxation and failure to nurture their children in acceptable community norms.

Ecweru on his part said the government that fought for peace and stability cannot observe the youths messing up security.

“IGP in my routine work I visited some government prisons with vast farms in Northern Uganda and I assured the authorities in those facilities that I was going to send for them free labour from Teso. Uganda police and other forces need uniform from cotton, so Byakagaba let’s join hands if you need force supplement we shall avail you,” Ecweru remarked.

Ecweru said courts should be ready expedite their sentencing so as have these criminals taken to prisons to do beneficial work.

Byakagaba who represented both the ministry of internal affairs and Uganda police force said extraction of these lawless youths is a simple assignment that the police force I going to act on, we have all of them rounded and prosecuted.

“There is no way these young people can be left causing insecurity at the time government to eradicate poverty is at the apex”, Byakagaba said.

Mukula lauded Ecweru for steering the Arrow boys force that rooted out rebels and halted the rampant cattle rustling.

His highness Paul Sande Emolot Papa Iteso challenged the Iteso to get back to their roots and uphold the norms that identified Iteso as a unique tribe of dignity.

“I would like to thank President Museveni for the trust he has in Iteso based on our cultural values of trust openness and adherence. It’s unfortunate the youth are getting detailed. I want to appreciate the steps to be taken to bring order to Teso” he said.

Odomel thanked the mourners for standing with his family especially to Uganda police force for covering all the burial expenses and a supplement of shs. 5 million.
